This unit covered a huge section of history and in a very strange way. Because the students had learned about WWII in their World History classes, the focus of this unit was the American Home front and the American experience. We covered the causes of WWII but also US propaganda, Japanese internment, Jewish refugees, and the Double V Campaign. This set of artifacts looks at the Double V Campaign and what that means for students today. The Double V Campaign was a campaign by the African American community to win a “Victory” against the Nazis but also win a “Victory” against racism in America. The campaign called for full rights and freedom for the men risking their lives for a country that did not treat them with respect or equality ("The Pittsburgh Courier" PBS).
