Student Rubric: Analysis
The analysis section is geared towards making sure students are critically and deeply thinking. Analysis asks students to take the information they just learned and to start unpacking it and teasing out the information to see if they agree or if they are questioning different parts. Tomlinson and McTighe (2006) explain this concept perfectly as they write, “Over time, learners develop and deepen their understanding by thinking and rethinking, examining ideas from a different point of view, exploring underlying assumptions, receiving feedback, and revising” (p. 124). Another key aspect of the analysis section of the rubric is that students are nuanced in their opinions of the information. The rote information is no longer an acceptable response—there needs to be some of their own thoughts and opinion supported by that information.
