In this Advocacy Unit, we will be exploring the early movements of labor unions, women's rights, Native American rights, and slave revolts. We will be focusing on the connection between all of these individual advocacy movements and modern day examples. For our discussion of Native American rights, we will look at a Lakota band that is working to bring restoration to their reservation. For our discussion of early women's rights movement, we will look at the stereotypes associated with men and women today. The enduring understandings that students will walk away with are: 1. Advocacy is a vital skill for student's future 2. There are different ways to productively advocate for one's needs |
