In this unit, we explored the post WWI boom and subsequent bust leading to the Great Depression. We looked at the Roaring Twenties, the Harlem Renaissance, the boom of industry in post WWI America, and the span of the Great Depression.
For the purposes of this inquiry, I am going to focus on our work around the Harlem Renaissance. In this section of the unit, students explored the works of artists such as Langston Hughes and Billie Halliday. They looked at the implications of the Harlem Renaissance on African American’s during the 1920’s as well as the lasting impact of violence against the African American community today. Students pulled themes from the Harlem Renaissance and applied those themes to their own lives. |
